Trump Files Lawsuit Against New York Attorney General

The Trump Administration has filed a lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James for alleged financial document forgery. This lawsuit follows accusations made by James against Trump in 2024. The controversy deepens as claims of falsified records emerge, raising legal questions.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump filed a complaint against New York Attorney General Letitia James for the alleged falsification of financial documents, the same crime for which she charged and prosecuted the president in 2024, as well as his children and an employee.

The director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, William J. Pulte, initiated the process against the Democrat on Monday, filing the complaint in a letter sent to the Department of Justice stating that the attorney falsified documents and property records to obtain loans during Joe Biden's administration.

"According to news reports, Letitia James has falsified, on multiple occasions, bank documents and property records to obtain assistance and government-backed loans, as well as more favorable credit conditions," the letter states.

In 2023, James purchased a home in Virginia and in the mortgage documents claimed it would be her primary residence, despite her position as state attorney general requiring her to reside in New York. Pulte also mentioned in the letter that mortgages for primary residences receive more favorable loan terms than those for secondary residences.

Another alleged fraud case against James specifies that in 2001, the attorney lied when describing a property in Brooklyn to meet the requirements and obtain a government-backed loan.

"It appears that James may have listed the Brooklyn property as a four-unit instead of a five-unit to meet the loan requirements and thus receive a better interest rate," Pulte indicated.

The chair of the New York City Council, Adrienne Adams, defended James, stating that the complaint is "the latest episode in Trump’s war against New York." "He has tried to cut funding for our public schools and universities, intimidate our attorneys, deport permanent residents, and decimate our economy with reckless tariffs."
